The meaningless hair grades

Do you really know the grades of human hair? I think you must see 8A, 9A, 10A, 11A, 12A and even 15A on the title of hair products on vendors websites, do they really stand for the real grades of the human hair? I do not think so, and I think they are meaningless. In my opinion, the real grade only describes the quality of the human hair, it can be divided into virgin hair, remy hair and non-remy hair, virgin hair is the best grade. So, the real grade in human hair does not mean “the higher the number, the higher the grade is”, this is a wrong view and may become a wrong guide when you are going to purchase.

For example, on some vendors price list, they say their bundles are 16A, but on the price list of some other vendors, the highest grade is 11A, so you will choose 16A, is that a right choice? Maybe if the 16A really has a higher quality than the 11a of the other vendor, but there is also another possibility, which is the 16A has the same quality or even worse quality than the 11A, but you finally bought 16A hairs at much higher price, this sounds bad. So, I said such digital hair grades are meaningless.

However, within one hair company, there may be different grades of human hairs described in 10A, 11A and 12A, the higher the number, the higher the grade is, this is true. To meet customers various needs, a lot of hair vendors will keep different grades of hairs in their warehouse, for example, they use 10A to stand for non-remy hair, use 11A to mark their remy hair products, and then 12A means virgin hair products in their company. So, if you want the best hair, then choose 12A grade. But some companies may use 15A or 16A to represent their best virgin hair, this is normal.

The following are examples, two scams, both said they are selling 15A raw hair, but do you think you can buy a 30in double drawn bundle at $31? Or you can buy three double drawn hair bundles of 20in at only $110?

What are return hairs?

When buying a closure, a frontal or a wig, you may have noticed the short hairs on the top, for example, on the top of a closure, many customers have complained this issue to their hair vendors, they do not like too many short hairs on their wigs, they want perfect wigs. Actually return hairs are normal for every closure and frontal as well as wig, almost each of them has return hairs, which do not mean low quality. Whether the closure or wig is handmade or machine made, there will be return hairs. When making a wig or a closure, the hair is knotted onto the wig base or the lace base, the short hairs will occur. For example, please check the picture below, a hair strand in 20 inches will be tied onto the lace base, a short piece on one side of the knot is about 5 inches, the longer piece on the other side is 15 inches. Hair vendors have been using this method to make lace closures and wig for a long time, this can save them a lot of manufacturing cost. No hair vendor is willing to use the left knotting method on the picture because the cost will be very large.

Too many return hairs will cause unnatural wearing experience, you can snip them with scissors. If you buy a human hair wig, in most cases the wig is made with Chinese hairs that are stiff, then you will see a lot flyaways at the top, you will need to tame them using flat iron. There are a lot of ways to tame, try to search on Youtube.

What is hair weaving?

Human Hair Patterns

Weave, weft and bundle, you may have heard these three words when purchasing hair products online, actually I do not know their difference and always think they are the same products. What is a hair bundle? It is a collection of many hair strands, which are sewn together by machine or hand tied, usually one bundle is 100 grams or customized according to customers’ requirement. Once the bundle being unfolded, then it becomes a weave or weaving in front of your eyes. The best hair weave or bundle in the market is made with raw human hairs whose cuticles aligned in the same direction.

The manufacturing of hair weaves is not simple, from collecting raw hair materials to finished products, there are a series of processes to follow, during the entire processes, will chemicals be used? I think yes, but not too much chemials will be used to wash the hairs just collected. So, I think there are no 100% non-chemical processed hairs in the market.

About the textures or patterns of hair weaves, there are usually three types, straight, wavy and curly, under the categories of wavy and curly, there are other patterns such as water wave, loose wave, deep wave, deep curly, kinky curly. With the help of high-temperature steam and some tools, the wavy and curly patterns are easy to be achieved. But not all patterns from all hair companies can always keep their original status. The wavy or curly patterns on some hairs may become not wavy or curly after being washed.

The Chinese hair factories

For your hair business, do you want to come to China and visit some hair factories? I think some of you will say yes. There are a lot of hair factories in China, but not every city in China makes hair products, basically speaking, there are four hair manufacturing bases in China, they are Shandong, Henan, Anhui and Guangdong. And in each province, there are two or three cities that make hair products. So, if coming to China, hope you have selected a right city to visit so that you can find the exact hair products you want, after reading this article, you may have a basic knowledge about the hair production bases in China.

First, there are three places in Shandong that have hair factories, they are Qingdao, Jiaozhou and Heze, These hair factories in Shandong mainly manufacture high-end hair wigs and bundles, some only make hair extensions such as clip ins for the white people. Seaforest and Jinda are two big hair companies in Qingdao. Seaforest has a more complete product lines that cover hair extensions, wigs, hair pieces and toupees. While Jinda mainly produces hair extensions, mens toupee and wigs.

Second, it is Xuchang city in Henan. Xuchang is the most famous city in this field and you may have known this place, Xuchang is the largest hair production base in the world, almost half of the hair products sold in the United States are actually made in Xuchang. There are a lot of hair factories there, they mainly produce virgin hair wefts and hair extensions. Here I recommend three factories, they are Senyuan, Hongyang Shenghua Industry and Penghui. Xuchang in Henan is also the most important hair production base in China, I will write an article to give a more detailed review about the hairs in Xuchang.

Third, it is Taihe County and Fuyang City in Anhui province. The hair factories in these two places of Anhui mainly produce virgin hair wefts. The famous hair factories there are JRX, Fortune Fashion and Jixiang.

Fourth, it is Guangdong. Guangzhou and Shenzhen are two big cities that have the most hair companies, I do not want to say hair factories here because most of these hair companies are actually distributors or retail sellers, they ordered hairs in bulk from Xuchang hair factories and sell them to the United States through aliexpress or amazon. However, some sellers indeed have a hair factory in Xuchang. By the way, the most famous hair company in Guangzhou is KBL, they offer high-end hair wefts, closures and frontals.

Conclusion: each hair production base in these four places has their own product advantages, some mainly produce virgin hair wefts, some mainly offer hair extensions for the white people, actually each hair factory has their core competitive products, you can visit several factories first and then decide which one is suitable for your hair business.

There is hair density on the bundles, closures, frontals and wigs, simply speaking, the hair density means how many hair strands are there in a square centimeter. There are usually 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%, 120%, 140%, 160%, 180% and 200% to describe the density.

Look at the pictures below, from top to bottom, left to right, the hair density is 10%, 80%, 90%, 100%, 110%, 120%, 130%, 150%.

The different types of hair materials

I have been in this area for years, according to my knowledge, the materials to make the wigs, toupee and extensions are usually divided into three types, they are human hair, synthetic hair and animal hair.

Chinese Human Hair

Human Hair

According to different origins, there are Chinese hair, Indian hair, Brazilian hair, Burmese hair, Mongolian hair, Vietnamese hair, Russian hair, European hair and so on. Because there is a population of almost 1.4 billion in China, so in the market, the most common hair you see is Chinese hair. The hairs from different origins usually have different features, for example, Chinese hair is a little harder and thicker, while Indian hair and Brazilian hair are softer and thinner. Actually, whether the bundles, closures, wigs or extensions you are buying from the market, they are mostly made with Chinese hair or Indian hair.

Well, human hair is also divided into remy human hair and non-remy human hair. Remy human hair is cut from one single donor or the hair collected that has cuticles aligned in the same direction. While non-remy human hair has disorganized cuticles or destroyed cuticles. Human hair is expensive, the hair products that are made with human hair are much higher than the other two materials.

Kanekalon Synthetic Hair

Synthetic Hair

Synthetic hair also has three types, there are basically Chinese synthetic hair, Korean synthetic hair and Japanese synthetic hair. Each of them has different hand feeling, glossiness, quality and durability. Chinese synthetic hair is the cheapest among these hair, it is usually used in the wigs for models and sports fans. The most expensive is Japanese synthetic hair, whose price is 3 times the price of synthetic hair from China. The most famous synthetic hair company in Japan is Kanekalon.

Animal Hairs

Animal Hair

There are ox hair, mohair and horse hair.

Conclusion:

Human hair has the best hand feeling, it has a natural look, minimal shedding and tangling, human hair can also be dyed, bleached and styled, but its has a very high price and usually the styling shape won’t keep for so long.

Synthetic hair looks brighter, not like your own hair and it has a poor fidelity. You will feel a little itchy when wearing a synthetic hair wig. Wearing synthetic hair will cause more scalp problems. But it is cheap and the styling can keep for a long time.

Animal hair is significantly fluffier than human hair and synthetic hair. Its price is a little higher than synthetic hair. Until now, I have not seen wigs in the market made with animal hair.
